Who's quietly cancelling their AI subscriptions?
Well, well, well. Look who's quietly cancelling their AI subscriptions.
Well, well, well. Look who’s quietly cancelling their AI subscriptions. Six months ago every all-hands deck had “AI-native” stamped on it like a holographic sticker. Now those same companies are sliding the SaaS invoices under the rug and slipping “engineer headcount” back into the Q3 plan. I’ve been watching this from the cheap seats in engineering. The math was never going to work. Five of the trendy “AI-first” tools run a team around $4k a month. That’s two mid-level devs who actually understand the product architecture. One of those options ships features. The other one ships invoices. We confused token counts with velocity. Standup demos with progress. We outsourced critical thinking and got exactly what we paid for: expensive autocomplete. AI is a force multiplier. I use it every day. But you can’t multiply zero. When something breaks at 2am, I’d rather Slack a human who gives a damn than prompt-engineer an apology out of a chatbot. Hire the brain. Rent the tool. #AI #Engineering #Tech
